Swim Training
The essence of swimming is doing it well with style. Unlike some sports, swimming should look efficient and smooth. These elements are what we are trying to develop in our workouts. We will challenge you to swim well by improving your technique. If this happens, then you will swim faster. We will also make you work a little bit. Swimming is a technique sport closer to golf or tennis than to running or biking. This is not to say that aerobic training is not important, - it is, but if you have limited time and have to choose between technique and fitness, choose technique when it comes to swimming workouts. Throughout the year the swim workouts will focus on technique as much as aerobic fitness. Unfortunately it is all to easy to become a very fit, bad (slow) swimmer if technique is ignored. Most of a swimmer's effort is spent in overcoming water resistance (70-90%) so if water drag can be minimized, the speed increases.
Workouts are on Tuesday, Thursday (6:30-7:30am). In June, we will workout at Thetis Lake on Friday evenings. For further information or suggestions on your individual swim training program, please feel free to contact our new coach, Mike Walsh.
